Province of Massa-Carrara

From our shop...

A Small Place in Italy - Eric Newby (Picador)

Massa-Carrara (It. Provincia di Massa-Carrara) is a province in the Tuscany region of Italy. It is named after the two main towns in its territory: Carrara and Massa, its capital. It has an area of 1,156 sq km, and a total population of 197,652 (2001). There are 17 comuni in the province.

Its economical relevance, once mainly based on the production of the famous white Carrara marble, has now shifted to the importation and fabrication of blocks of marble and granite from all over the world.
