Serchio is third river in Tuscany, after Arno and Ombrone's rivers.

The principal branch comes down from slopes of Sillano's mount (1.864 meters) and it meets with others branches in Piazza al Serchio. It across Garfagnana from north to suth and it is more times artificially crossed. In this poing it receive from left the River, the Castiglione, the Sillico and after the Lima, that it constitutes a sottobacino to being himself; from right Edron, Tùrrite Secca, Tùrrite Gallicano, Tùrrite Cava and the Pedogna. Arrived in Lucca's land, it goes to west and it is thrown in sea Tirreno into zone of San Rossore's Park, in north of Pisa,

The street number 12 of Abetone and Brennero coast along it already to a Lucca's valley, after going up until Bagni di Lucca; from here until to the origins, from street to Capanne di Sillano and the step of Pradarena.

The localities that the river across are in Garfagnana: Castelnuovo di Garfagnana, Barga, Bagni di Lucca. In Lucchesia: Borgo a Mozzano and Lucca.
